Colour Haze / Hypnos 69 "Split" EP

(elektrohasch records, 2004)

What can anybody say about a band like Colour haze! I simply can’t be impartial and objective with those guys!
And how can anybody that loves psychedelic/heavy rock be impartial. With 2 album releases the last couple of years that can easily be put on the top shelf of 2003 – 2004 heavy stoner albums. On the other side of this EP a band that I have been always cautious with in the past, but the last few months my opinion has changed completely about. First it was the Swamp room festival in Germany last September where I watched them perform live and I was shocked by their appearance. (I can’t say anything for Colour Haze’s show cause my jaw is still somewhere in Kafe Kult!). Then “The Intrigue Of Perception” CD came along and now this split EP. Both of the bands are delivering two tracks. On the Colour Haze side "Flowers" is taken from this year's self titled album and it’s amazing! With Mani’s military drumming on the lead and a strange low tempo that almost sounds uncanny! "Amo Te" is a typical Colour Haze track, filled with the bands lyricism while Stefan proves once more what a great guitarist he is! On the Hypnos69 side, two superb tracks are waiting for us to explore them. "When Fire Makes You Dance" is probably the highlight of the EP and also one of the best tracks that I have ever heard from Hypnos69, with some guitarist elevations that nail you down. And last but not least “Skating On Thin Ice” is a classic 70's influenced prog rock track with great melodic vocals and the bands characteristic jazzy/groovy/spacey harmony stealing the performance once more.
At the end the only thing that is bad in this EP is that it ends too fucking soon! Buy this EP or steal it!
