| It Will Come - "Bound" |
| (self released, 2004) |
This Swedish quintet caught me napping. They are one of the positive surprises that only underground metal can offer, especially when someone speaks about bands that are at the very early stages. It Will Come present to us their first demo, which is constituted by three songs. Their musical identity is solid melodic doom metal in the vein of Candlemass and Memory Garden (“Forever” era). They employ female vocals, but they are not as the numerous weak examples of atmospheric and ethereal metal. The main feature that differentiates them is that they are “song-oriented” and they are based at the tradition of the colossal bands of doom metal, instead of “image-oriented”. Of course there are some references to the vocal lines of Anneke Van Giersbergen of The Gathering and Kari Rueslatten, former member of The 3rd and the Mortal, but this is not the principal element in their music. I would say that the compositions are the first and main reason for keeping the audient interested as they combine melody, heaviness, and expressiveness in these three slow paced songs. This may sound cliche, but it has stuck in my CD-player, because without exaggerations or “sound-decorations” display the true essence of our beloved music. The production is fair, but I think that there is a lot of space for advancement in this field. The question is whether the band is capable of offering us something more extended and balanced. “Bound” is balanced and reveals a mature band, but I would like to see if the band could bear the test of a lengthier release. For the time being you are invited find more information about the way that you can order a copy of the CD by contacting the band. It is a good chance to listen to a band that has the potential to offer a lot to doom metal. I believe that there is space for the merge of female vocals and doom metal (remember “Turn Back Trilobite” of the criminally under-estimated Sacrilege) and this is a good proof. |
