Litany - "Solemn/Plunder Thy Sons" single

(eat metal records, 2004)

Here's the first official work of Litany and as I know the first full length is in the wind for early 2005.
Two songs from their first demo/rehearsal '03, re-recorded (?), with the best possible production. Some good ideas plus a beautiful black and whiter cover which reminds me of Solstice. Epic lyrics which are Candlemass influenced, epic doom music which is influenced by Solstice (the repeatedly long epic riffs) is the result of "Solemn". "Plunder Thy Sons" fills the speakers with anger and rage. It is a near-Manowar hymn to the brave. The production brings the songs to the forefront and pushes them over their limits. These are the good news. I'm not the guy who loves to put low rates, especially to new doom bands. I'm not the one who reviewed their first demo/rehearsal '03. But, the fact is that nothing changed since their first attempt. The vocals (the most important thing that characterizes each group) are a bit "flat", the drums hit where there is no need and the orchestration seems not really worked. These two songs are old and we ain't got a tangible proof that Litany get improved. The new ones will probably be better, but unless we hear them, we can't say that this is the best result this band can offer us.
We need doom bands in Greece like Litany. But in my opinion, work is what we ask. Not words...
