Another Swedish heaviness knocking our door. Here we have Mindblizz and
their own perception of how to rock in the 70’s way. This is obviously
not a normal album, just a sample of the band’s music, from what I can
assume.
Mindblizz drives influences from the usual suspects (call us Black Sabbath)
while the traces of bands like Trouble (late period) or Orange Goblin
are clear on their music paths. Heavy and really fuzzy guitars, pounding
rhythm section that seems to lead the songs and a voice that is caught
somewhere between Robert Plant's high notes and Ozzy's tone (also reminding
even of Chris Cornell in some parts). Mindblizz can definitely write very
good songs, and I believe that they haven’t yet showed us the full range
of their abilities. What really impressed me in their music are their
solos, furious with touches of southern rock and pretty enjoyable to listen
to.
What ruins the whole result is the production which is incredibly mediocre.
I usually don’t care much about it, as long as it doesn't nearly destroy
the music. But here, it buries the guitar (while the bass is over-heard)
and the drum sound is awful. It is a pity because the band has some talent,
and the sound of the promo doesn’t make it obvious enough. I am waiting
for a full length release with a much improved sound; it will be for your
own good guys.
