Mirror Of Deception - "Conversion"

(the miskatonic foundation, 2003)

Believe it or not, this is just the 2nd official release by Germany’s finest doomsters. Probably the fate of any band that has chosen the hardest metal route, that is classic doom.
The first thing that a MoD fan will notice is the absense of x-singer, Baumi. Guitarist Siffi took over the vocal duties and he’s doing a hell of a job, like his predecessor. To be honest those double vocals that so perfectly characterized MoD’s sound will be greatly missed. But Siffi’s soulful voive takes the band one step further into the darker side of things and that can only be a good thing.
Conversion sadly is just a mini CD containing 4 beautiful songs plus an intro/outro. Excellent guitar work by both Siffi and Jochen fill “Conversion” with a haunting, melancholic vibe. “Vanished” with the gothic-like vocals is my favorite track.
If you’re not familiar with MoD’s work and you’ re into traditional doom bands like Candlemass, Solstice etc. this is where you should start from. A few notes into MoD’s music and you’ll be converted…
